The ESG Shipping Awards have been established to recognize the best-performing companies or organizations across a range of ESG categories. The ESG Shipping Awards will promote best practices, innovation, and leadership in the space of ESG within the Maritime industry.
By entering the ESGSA, Maritime companies can increase their reputation and credibility as well as create a competitive advantage against their peers.
Awarded companies and Finalists can communicate their success to their stakeholders (i.e. investors, charterers, financiers, insurers, etc.).
The ESGSA are highlighted and amplified on all our social media channels with a global reach.
The Awards are open to shipping companies worldwide which own/operate vessels.
The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony took place at the Grand Hyatt Athens on Monday, May 20, 2024.
The entries open from 8 January 2024 to 15 March 2024.
No, the entire process is free of charge.
Candidates are not allowed to sponsor any award. Likewise, sponsors of the Awards cannot be nominated for them – if incidentally that happens their nomination form will be considered for the following year provided, they are not a sponsor again.
ESG Shipping Awards, recognize initiatives under three pillars: Environment, Social, and Governance. Under each pillar there are subcategories. Entities can nominate their initiatives for the following 10 Award Categories:

We accept and encourage self-nominated applications. Applications are received from individual companies/organizations through our online application form. We also accept nominations for companies from 3rd parties.
All candidates will have to fill in a form by answering a questionnaire and submitting any supporting documents, including but not limited to sustainability report, certifications, or any recognitions related to the ESG category.
Shipping Companies can nominate projects, actions, or best practices related to each Award category. The actions must have started or finished during 2023 and must be impactful, inclusive, and measurable.
Recognizing which companies or organizations are excelling in ESG practices and which are not is an extremely challenging exercise.
We decided to take a more holistic approach by deconstructing ESG into its component parts and using an advanced screening and scoring methodology based on publicly available data and/or internal information provided by the companies along with some supporting material.
Strict rules of confidentiality and conflict of interest apply both for the Judging Committee and the selection process.
Shipping Companies can nominate projects, actions, or best practices related to each Award category. The entities can provide information about their ESG practices, procedures, and policies. The actions must have started or finished during 2023 and must be impactful, inclusive, and measurable.
A Panel of Judges from international organizations and institutions, experts in the respective ESG areas and shipping, comprise the Judging Committee. The Judging Committee is responsible to judge the finalists and the winners of each ESG category.
Once the selection process is completed, finalists will be informed individually.
Strict rules of confidentiality and conflict of interest apply both for the Judging Committee and the selection process.
Participants must demonstrate best practices in relation to at least one ESG Award Category. Best practices are considered effective ESG focused activities, governance, strategy, policies, procedures, KPIs, targets, training, performance monitoring, assessment and certification. This information gives insight into the profile and scale of the organization and provides a context to the judging committee for understanding the organization’s impact in each ESG category.
The winners were announced during the award ceremony on the 20th May 2024.
No, the Shipping Companies entered in the nomination for the ESG Shipping Awards will be kept confidential. No public disclosure of nominations will be made except for those companies that are selected as the winners and finalists. Any nomination submitted and its supporting material will be kept confidential by the Organizers and the Judging Panel.
In order to allow more companies to enter the Awards’ competition, each entity can be nominated for up to two (2) categories and can nominate up to three (3) projects, actions or best practices per category. A separate application must be submitted for each category.
Companies can support by being Awards or Event sponsors. By sponsoring the ESG Shipping Awards, organizations will associate their brand with positive impact and sustainable best practices.
Sponsors will be demonstrating their willingness to support the Maritime industry to incorporate ESG into their business model. Sponsors will be enhancing their corporate responsibility and stakeholder engagement.
Sponsors will be increasing their international visibility and networking opportunities in the Maritime industry.
